Lonnie Bradford e-mailed me with this message: “Just wanted to let the folks up north know that in June I’m heading out for a year-long Army deployment to Afghanistan.” Lonnie and his wife are also expecting their first child in the fall.
Our sympathy to the family of Arnold Clarence Manninen, 81, of Wright who died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in Cardinal Courts in Cromwell. He was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Cloquet to William and Hulda Manninen. A memorial service was held Tuesday, May 31, in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
Reid Kirkpatrick, 56, of Cromwell died in a motorcycle accident on May 21, 2011. Reid and his family lived in the home built by Phillip Randall on the east side of Cromwell Lake. Our sympathy to his family.
The Cromwell Wright School Dollars for Scholars and several others gave out over $15,000 in scholarships to our senior class this year. Details in next week’s news.
The Wright Public Cemetery is looking for monetary donations to help with lawn care for 2011. Any donations can be mailed to Judy VonDeLinde, PO Box 302, McGregor, MN 55760. Make checks out to the Wright Public Cemetery and thanks for any support.
Last chance! Get your All-School Reunion Reservations sent in to Linda Larson, PO Box 36, Cromwell, MN 55726. The cost is $20 per person. Send your name, address, etc., and the class you were in or what you taught or did at the school. All area folks are welcome to attend whether you attended our school or not. There are over 450 registered so far.
The First Annual Kaleb Anderson Memorial 5K Family Fun Run/Walk and Pancake Breakfast will take place on July 2, which is the morning of the All-School Reunion. Call Jen Anderson at 218-644-3806 to sign up. Proceeds will go towards new playground equipment at the Cromwell Park.
Strikepoint, one of the world’s top handbell ensembles, will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Cromwell. There is no admission charge, but a $10 donation is suggested.
The Cromwell Volunteer Fire Department Blood Drive will take place from 2:30-6 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at the Cromwell Fire Department. Contact Ray Lally at 218-644-3739 to sign up. By donating blood you would be in a drawing to win one of eight pairs of premium seat tickets and access to the Metropolitan Club at Target Field, one of 20 $25 gift cards for select restaurants near Target Field, or one of 20 $50 Twins Pro Shop gift cards.
There were seven candidates filing for the two open positions on the Cromwell City Council. The newly appointed council members are Tom Borglund and Warren Peters.
Don’t forget the Harvest Fest Steak Fry on Friday, June 17, at the Cromwell Park Pavilion starting at 4:30 p.m.
The next Harvest Fest meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Cardinal Court Conference Room. All are welcome to come and have your input.
The Cromwell Area Historical Club is looking for old Cromwellians – not people, yearbooks! When I look around I see lots of old Cromwellians, I’m one of them. Years needed are 1983, ’87, ’91, ’93, ’96, 2000, ’01 and ’02. If anyone has these yearbooks to donate, call Judy Koivisto at 644-3752.
Two weekends ago, I had a chance to visit with Ed and Gayle Nieman. Ed is now a member of the F-R-O-G-S Group at his church. This stands for Faithful Retired Old GeezerS (or GuyS). Neat! They meet for Bible study once a week and/or do other volunteer projects.
That’s all the news from Lake Congratsgrads and Hello to all the folks who motored to our fair towns for graduation and all those wonderful grad parties. Our parents do a super job with their kids and those parties are enjoyed by all who attended.
