Community bids farewell to its soldiers

The line at the Cloquet Area Recreational Facility last Friday morning stood three or four abreast and snaked its way out the door and down the entire length of the parking lot. There was none of the riotous excitement of a hockey game, however, none of the electrically charged atmosphere of a concert or the nervous anticipation of a high school graduation ceremony. Instead, there was an air of watchful waiting.
Inside, some 130 soldiers of the C Troop 1-94th Cavalry, fresh off two weeks of rigorous conditioning at Fort Ripley, went through their paces one final time in preparation for their community farewell ceremony.

"I'm ready to go and get it over with," said SSgt. Derek Daniels of Duluth before Friday's farewell. "We've had a long time to prepare, and now we're going to put that training to good use."
