Tony Bender said it was awesome.
Barnum’s head baseball coach watched in full enjoyment as his Bombers destroyed the ball Tuesday afternoon. Barnum’s three homers keyed a 7-3 Polar League upset over top-ranked Moose Lake-Willow River in Barnum.
The Bombers’ stunning win avenged an earlier season 9-4 loss to the Rebels at their place. Tuesday, Jordan Morse, Josh Hogan and Justin Newman all hit home runs for the Bombers, while Jacob Naslund also had a pair of hits.
“We played out of our minds,” said Bender. “It was so great to see.”
Newman guided the Bombers (5-9) on the bump as he fanned 13 ML-WR batters and only issued four hits going the distance. Along with his homer, Newman added a double, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Ryan Adamczak was the losing pitcher for ML-WR (12-6). He recorded a pair of hits to go along with knocks from Spencer Clough and BJ Young.
The loss was the first Polar League defeat for the Rebels this spring. It was also some sweet revenge for Bender’s vastly improving Bombers bunch.
“This win was huge for us,” said Bender. “When we show up to play, we’re pretty good. The playoffs are coming up and I think we can do some damage.”
