Wrenshall JV baseball gets first win

By: Tyler Korby, Pine Journal

It was quite the sendoff for the Wrens.

Playing in a doubleheader last Friday at Cook County, the Wrenshall junior varsity baseball team defeated the Vikings JV 19-8 and lost 7-6 in Grand Marais.

The win was the first of the season for the newly-formed Wrens (1-3), who closed their brief year on a high note. Andrew Frank was the winning pitcher.

Wrenshall, which brought back baseball for the first time in recent memory this spring, will again play a JV schedule next year and return to varsity after that.

In just three road trips this year, the Wrens played at Carlton, Hermantown and Cook County. It was a short season.

Short and sweet for head coach Doug Frank and his boys.

“It’s a long drive up to there, but the kids sure enjoyed it,” Frank said after the win. “We had a lot of hits and played hard. The kids did well. It was fun.”
