CLOQUET – The Rangers didn’t have a single hit.
Cloquet senior pitcher Denise Rodd made quick work of visiting Crosby-Ironton Tuesday, as she hurled a no-hitter and was one issued walk away from a perfect game in Cloquet’s 12-0 rout in the first round of the Section 7AA playoffs at Braun Park.
Behind Rodd, the top-seeded Lumberjacks jumped all over bottom-ranked Crosby-Ironton from the first batter. Junior Dalyce Gustafson started the hit parade for Cloquet with a lead-off
Gustafson, Kelly Carlson and Lizz Jezierski all had two hits for Cloquet (11-4). The ’Jacks will now face Greenway Thursday in the quarterfinals at Braun Park.
The ’Jacks honored Rodd with a signed game ball afterward.
“Denise did a great job throwing strikes and mixing things up to earn her first no-hitter,” said Coach Ron Tondryk. “The girls are playing with some confidence right now and hopefully we can keep on our top game here in the playoffs.”
