Steve Mokros watches the weather a lot.
Whether looking online, at the television or just out the window, the longtime Moose Lake-Willow River golf
coach is always glancing up to the sky.
And it was early afternoon on a rainy Tuesday when he postponed the inaugural Polar Cup golf meet in Moose Lake.
“It wasn’t raining until about one in the afternoon,” Mokros said. “Usually kids getting a little wet are a part of spring golf, but once I heard the track and baseball teams had postponed, I didn’t want to take any chances.”
ML-WR, Esko-Carlton, Two Harbors and Wrenshall will all take part in the Polar Cup clash that has already been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the Moose Lake Golf Course. All four squads will battle for two traveling cups, created by Mokros, instead of competing in the
extinct Polar League golf
“Next Tuesday is looking good,” Mokros said. “We’ll just have to wait and see.”
