Esko track teams shine at Minnesota True Team state meet

Esko won four individual events and repeated as overall team champion at the Minnesota True Team girls track and field state meet Saturday at Stillwater.

Esko won four individual events and repeated as overall team champion at the Minnesota True Team girls track and field state meet Saturday at Stillwater.

The Esko boys won three events and finished fourth out of nine teams.

Junior Marisa Shady won the 100 meters in 13.78 seconds and was second in the 800, while younger sister Erika took first in the 200 in 27.15 to edge out teammate Olivia Rengo. Kailee Kiminski was victorious in the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 22.82 seconds, while Brooke Schramm (16 feet, 5½ inches) and Caitlin Lilly went 1-2 in the long jump. The Eskomos’ 400 relay was second to Lake City.

The Eskomos totaled 465½ points to outdistance runner-up Blue Earth by nearly 40 points.

On the boys side, Esko scored 343½ points to place behind champion Maple Lake (401), Montevideo (391) and Winona Cotter (356).

Senior Max Reinertsen won the triple jump (43-2¾) and placed second in the long jump; Riley Mudek was first in the 400 (51.81) and runner-up in the 200; and Tyler Denzler overcame a last-place finish in the shot put to win the discus (139-10). The Eskomos’ 400 relay lost by 16-hundredths of a second to Crookston.
