Three Cloquet Area Fire District stations responded to a mobile home fire Wednesday evening at 2630 Big Lake Road outside Cloquet.
CAFD Battalion Chief Gordy Meagher said a passerby reported the fire at 6:55 p.m. When the first fire engine arrived four minutes later, firefighters found the mobile home “fully involved with the roof collapsed into the center of the trailer.”
Meagher said the trailer was located 30 to 35 feet west of a house. People were home at the house, but apparently unaware of the fire. A defensive fire attack was initiated with a close watch on protecting the house. Since the area is rural in nature, several tankers were utilized for additional water needs.
Meagher did not know if anyone was currently living in the mobile home, but there were no injuries or deaths as a result of the fire. Both CAFD and the Fond du Lac police department are investigating the cause of the fire.
Eighteen firefighters from all three stations – Cloquet, Scanlon and Perch Lake – were on the scene approximately 90 minutes. Meagher said the mobile home was severely damaged.
