Look for a couple hundred wrestlers to descend on Cloquet this weekend for the Cloquet Area Youth Wrestling Association’s annual meet in the big gym at Cloquet High School.

The meet is open to all male and female wrestlers ages pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, and sign-ups are the same day. Organizer Jake Fjeld said kids register at the door (cost is $10 per wrestler, everyone gets a trophy) and weigh-ins are held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

“There will be kids from all over the Northland,” Fjeld said. “We had kids from Fargo a couple years ago; kids come from Wisconsin, International Falls, Princeton, North Branch and more.”

Wrestling begins at 10:30 a.m. with eight matches going on at the same time. Usually the younger wrestlers go first and the meet finishes up with seventh- and eighth-graders between noon and 2 p.m.

“We love to see fans,” Fjeld said, noting that entrance to watch the meet is $2 for adults. “Anyone who’s interested is more than welcome to come.”

Call Fjeld at 218-451-0856 with questions.
