Dennis Ray Cameron, 63, of Floodwood, Minn., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born in 1947 in Cloquet to Archie and Evelyn Cameron. He joined the United States Army in 1968 and served one tour of duty in Vietnam. Dennis married Shirley Theroux on June 29, 1968, in Red Lake Falls, Minn.
Denny was an owner and operator for Chas Young, P&H Trucking, and Willie Transport. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, spending time with family and following his grandchildren's sports.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Evie Cameron; grandson, Caden Goutermont; and in-laws, Mae and Armond Theroux.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Floodwood; daughters, Tracy (Darryl) Graff of Hibbing, Minn., Rhonda (Larry) Heggedahl of Floodwood, Roxanne (Kelly) Karppinen of Saginaw, Minn., and Heidi (Dion) Goutermont of Floodwood; grandchildren, Eric and Tyler Graff, Zachary, Jarred, Tanner and Jaxon Heggedahl, Bryce and Trey Karppinen, and Cameron and Lexi Goutermont; sisters, Cindy (Marcia) Laine of Aitkin, Minn., and Debbie (Gary) Keil of Floodwood; brother, Carey (Janelle) Cameron of Cloquet, Minn.; special brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bob and Lynette Theroux, Russell and Kyle Theroux, JR and Shelly Theroux, Danny Theroux, Tim Theroux, Kathy and Ted Tollefson, Carol Proulx, Wayne and Diana Theroux, and John Theroux; many nieces and nephews; and his special canine "son," Buddy.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Essentia's Hospice-Itasca team, his nurse, Bette Rutherford for all her care and support, and Drs. A. Gonzales and Ketchum for their wonderful care.
Gathering of friends and family will be held Monday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service in the Floodwood Assemblies of God Church. Military honors will be accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fair Building in Floodwood.
