CEC girls win Lake Superior Conference Nordic crown
The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls Nordic ski team was crowned the Lake Superior Conference champions Monday night at Snowflake Nordic Ski Center in Duluth.
The Lumberjacks totaled 379 points, barely edging out runner-up Proctor-Hermantown by six points, at 373. Duluth Marshall and Duluth Central followed.
CEC was paced by a trio of Esko students, as sophomore Molly Meysembourg placed third, while senior Kelsey Mudek and sophomore Korbyn Danielson followed in fifth and sixth, respectively. All three were named All-Conference.
“Boy, did those girls come through,” said CEC Nordic ski coach Les Martin. “I was hoping they could do it. They skied hard and were a lot of fun to watch. It was a total team effort from everyone involved.”
The CEC boys claimed third place with 359 points, a spot higher than a year ago. Duluth Marshall skied its way to the championship.
Sophomore Duncan Fox took eighth individually, while Esko freshman Reid Borchardt finished ninth. Both were awarded All-Conference honors.
