MLA boys split two games

Moose Lake Area’s boys hockey team stands at 9-5-0 after splitting two games last week.

Last Thursday, the Rebels led 5-1 after two periods but had to hang on to defeat Northern Lakes 6-4 in a Two Rivers conference game.

Moose Lake Area grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first period on a shorthanded goal by Zach Cisar and even-strength goals from Tyler Cisar and Josh Cisar.

That chased Northern Lakes starting goaltender Joe Herda in favor of Joey Bergquist, but Michael Gassert made it 4-0 4:32 into the second period before Andy Sorben finally got Northern Lakes on the scoreboard. Chris Gassert’s power-play goal – on the Rebels’ only opportunity of the night – made it 5-1 after two periods.

John Houck made it 5-2 early in the third but goals from Kegan Couture and Connor Chambers made it 5-4 with 43 seconds to play. Tyler Cisar then scored into an empty net to secure the win.

The Rebels outshot Northern Lakes 36-30 for the game, with Austin Lanoue making 26 saves for the Rebels.

On Tuesday night, though, the Rebels fell 5-3 to a strong Proctor team at Riverside Arena.

Two late second-period goals snapped a 2-2 tie and sent the visitors on to victory. Jake Cisar and Zach Cisar scored in the second period to erase Proctor leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before Jeremy Lopez and Griffin Swanson broke the tie late in the

second.

Jake Cisar’s power-play goal early in the third period made it 4-3 but Brandon Morin scored the final goal of the game for Proctor at 9:47.

Austin Lanoue made 31 saves in goal for the Rebels, who host North Branch on Thursday night and Legacy Christian on Saturday.
