GIRLS BASKETBALL: MIB holds off Barnum in section final

Mountain Iron-Buhl made four free throws in the final 30 seconds — including two by seventh-grader Mya Buffetta — to hold off Barnum 47-42 tonight in the Section 7A girls basketball championship before about 1,200 fans at Romano Gymnasium.

The other two free throws came from senior Dakotah Winans, who finished with a game-high 18 points to lead the Rangers, who used another big second half to beat the Bombers.

MIB (29-1), which won the section last season en route to a third-place finish at the Class A tournament, advances to its fourth state tournament.

Barnum (24-6), which got 11 points from Claire Rodgers and Katie Myhre, was going for its 10th state tournament since 1996.
