At a news conference this afternoon, Mike Sundin, a longtime activist for the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, plans to announce his candidacy to serve in the Minnesota House of Representatives for the newly drawn District 11A.
Sundin is the second DFLer to enter the race for a seat which lacks any incumbent in the wake of redistricting. Cloquet attorney Jesse Berglund announced last week that he would run.
Sundin, 54, served as chairman of the Carlton County DFL for eight years and has been active in the party for more than 35 years. For the past 34 years, he also has been an active member of Painters & Allied Trades Local 106.
Currently residing in Esko, Sundin used to live in Cloquet, where he served as a member of the Cloquet School Board from 1995 to 2000.
“For quite some time, I have contemplated serving my fellow citizens in Minnesota state government,” said Sundin in a written statement. “I didn’t expect this opportunity that was created by redistricting, but I’m excited about the opening. I feel I’m well prepared for the job.
“I know and believe in our state government. I know the players and have a strong desire to help improve Minnesota for its hard-working residents, for our young people and for those who have made it a great state.”
