Police involved in standoff at eastern Duluth home

Duluth police have blocked off traffic and Gold Cross Ambulance has a unit on standby as authorities work to sort out a standoff in the 2100 block of Lakeview Drive in the Hunters Park neighborhood.

As of 10:10 p.m. today, no official details had been released, but according to radio traffic, someone in a residence of that block is believed to be armed and has been unwilling to cooperate with police. It’s unclear whether others are in the home with the suspect.

Dan Menor, who lives next to the home where the standoff is taking place, said he and his family were evacuated and are safe; he said he doesn’t know what’s going on inside the home.

He said the homeowner has lived in the home for about 25 years, lives alone and is in his mid-50s.

Jim Hansen, a public information officer for the Duluth Police Department, said police first responded to “a threats call” at about 6 p.m. and have remained on the scene since then.

A command center vehicle has been stationed in the area to assist, according to Hansen.

Dan Maddy, who lives on the block where the standoff is occurring, said he doesn’t know what’s going on, but police came to his door, asked him to stay inside until the situation was resolved and to please turn off his front light.

Lisa Finnegan, who also lives in the same block, said her husband was out shoveling snow when an officer advised him to go inside until he received the all-clear that the problem had been addressed.

“It’s very odd to see something like this in our neighborhood. It’s a very quiet family-oriented area,” she said.
