Fire damages Solway Township home

Authorities received a security alarm call from the home shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Fire damaged a Solway Township home Sunday evening.

Authorities received a security alarm call from the home shortly before 7:30 p.m. The homeowner met an arriving St. Louis County Sheriff’s deputy and reported that his house was on fire. The fire, which appeared to have started in the basement, had started to spread to the first floor of the single-story building.

Firefighters from the Solway, Grand Lake, Hermantown, Canosia, East Brevator, Esko, Proctor, Industrial and Minnesota Air National Guard fire departments helped battle the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
