An adult and three children spent New Year’s Day in temporary housing after a fire damaged their apartment at 725 E. Second St. in Duluth.
The fire was reported about 2:20 p.m. Saturday by a neighbor who heard a smoke alarm. Fire crews arrived to a fire in the kitchen that caused about $40,000 of damage to one unit of the quadplex, the Duluth Fire Department reported today.
No one was in the apartment at the time. The Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross provided emergency food, clothing and shelter for the family.
Meanwhile, another fire Saturday in Sawyer in Carlton County destroyed the home of four adults. Information on the fire was not available, but the Red Cross provided emergency housing, personal items, food and warm clothing.
