On Nov. 2 voters in the Carlton Public Schools ISD No. 93 have the opportunity to vote on an Operating Levy Referendum. The Carlton School Board made a decision to ask voters to commit to the future of education in the Carlton School District by approving a $1,100-per-pupil-unit (PPU) operating levy referendum. This levy replaces the $500 PPU operating levy that expires this year. Passage of this operating referendum will allow the district to move ahead with Plan A of the Statutory Operating Debt (SOD) Recovery Plan. Plan A requires the district to continue making sound financial decisions that will have the district out of Statutory Operating Debt and with a small positive fund balance by June 30, 2013.

Having a positive fund balance allows the district to maintain the excellent educational programs that have been developed over many years. It also allows the development and implementation of new programs to prepare our students for the 21st century. The administration, faculty and staff will work together with the community and parents to insure that our students continue to receive an excellent education at the Carlton Public Schools.

Taxpayers in the Carlton School District can see the actual impact of the operating levy on their taxes by viewing the referendum tax calculator available on the district website at www.carlton.k12.mn.us. Click on the District Information link at the top of the page to find the tax calculator and the Statutory Operating Debt Recovery Plan.

The district will schedule informational meetings in October. We will also send representatives to other scheduled meetings. If you would like to have someone come to your meeting, call the district office at 384-4225.
