The Cromwell Area Sno-gophers will meet Saturday, Aug. 21, at 6 p.m. for a potluck meeting at the clubhouse located one-quarter mile north of Cromwell. All members are needed to discuss the upcoming events. New members and families are encouraged to join.
Doug and Bonnie Suhonen would like to thank everyone for the prayers and thoughts turned their way over the death of Bonnie’s mother, Marjorie Hladky.
The Class of 1947 is planning their annual reunion, which will be a luncheon at the Fireside in McGregor. They will meet Sunday, Sept. 12, at 12:30 p.m.
Dick Huhta has been nominated as a candidate for Outstanding Senior Volunteer for Carlton County for 2010. There will be a program at the Carlton County Fair in Barnum on Friday, Aug. 20, beginning at noon at the log pavilion. If your schedule allows, please join them in this celebration and help extend our appreciation and thanks for all his hard work for our community and county.
It was tough to hear that Dick Huhta fell at home and broke his hip. He is recuperating at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake after undergoing hip surgery.
Please contact Deb and Rob Switzer at 218-644-3780 to enter a float in the Cromwell Harvest Fest Parade. The parade will be at 10:30 a.m. with lineup at the Cromwell School at 9:30 a.m. You should complete a form to participate.
The Cromwell Area Historical Club is looking for old school desks to use on their Harvest Fest float this year. Call Judy Koivisto or Ken Kangas if you can help them out.
There will be a Spaghetti Supper on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 5-7 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Tamarack. All area folks are welcome to attend.
The Walli family held their family reunion on Sunday, Aug. 15, at the Lake Side Club House in rural Tamarack.
The Farmer’s Co-op Store in Wright held their 91st Annual Meeting on Aug. 10 at the Senior Center. Newly elected board directors were incumbent Jennie Hanson and new director Shirley Pearson. The other directors on the board are Madelyn Adelsgruber, Janet Hansen and Leland Tippett. The Co-op ended the year in the black for the second year in a row. Entertainment was provided by the Taplin family (Suzanne, Hannah, Josh, Elizabeth and Kaitlin) and enjoyed by all. The lunch was served by Bethlehem Lutheran. There were over 30 in attendance. A huge “thank you” goes out to our great staff at the Co-op Store and Feed Mill. Manager Deb Johnson and staff Jan, Jill, Deb and Jeff do a great job keeping up on all our needs. There was a lot of praise for them and the meat counter which is top notch! “Thank you” also to all the people who patronize our local store as it is so convenient to have a store in Wright. What would we do without it?
Last weekend, Bob and I went over to the Pine River area to spend the weekend with Peggy and John Gruhlke of Ayota, Minn. Peggy is the daughter of the late Bernard Larson. She would love to talk to anyone who knew Bernard and wants to learn more about her past as she was quite young when she left Cromwell. You can also call me if you have any information as she is one of my godchildren.
The folks at Villa Vista are looking for swimming caps and older style swimming suits for their float for the Harvest Fest to be held at Cromwell on the weekend of Sept. 10-12. Just drop them off at Villa Vista or call Cherie Nyberg for more information.
There will be an All School Reunion organizational meeting at the Cromwell Country Inn on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. This will be to set up committees and set the date for next year’s reunion.
The Class of 1963 will meet at noon on Saturday, Sept. 11, for their annual class reunion at the Harvest Fest in Cromwell.
The Cromwell-Wright Class of 1977 is planning a 30-plus-3-year reunion on Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. at the Fireside in McGregor. If you are interested in attending contact Cathy (Tillman) Lundin at 218-644-3784 to let her know how many will attend the dinner. Past teachers are invited also.
The Cromwell classes of 1955 and 1956 met at the Country Inn in Cromwell on Aug. 12 for an informal get together. There were 13 or 14 of them including three of the guys.
That’s all the news from Lake Gotothefair and enjoy the rest of August. I hear we are losing about an hour of daylight each month, so the days are surely getting shorter and the nights cooler. Have a great week!
