Some folks don’t learn from their mistakes, at least not the first time.
Cloquet police arrested Jonathan Henry Christian, 36, Sunday night for drug possession – while he was out on bail for a previous charge.
Christian was charged April 23 in Carlton County District Court with one count of second-degree controlled substance crime for possession of meth and misdemeanor no proof of insurance by driver. He was charged again in Carlton County Court Tuesday, Aug. 10, with one count of controlled substance crime in the third degree and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle along with driving after revocation. Bail was set at $5,000.
According to the complaint:
After Cloquet detectives received information that Christian had sold a small amount of methamphetamine Sunday and driven away on a four wheeler, detectives began to look for Christian.
At approximately 9:20 p.m., they saw him turn from Prospect Avenue onto Eighth Street, where he began traveling southbound. Because they knew his license had been suspended, the detectives stopped him.
Christian initially denied having any controlled substance on his person, but after consenting to a patdown search for weapons, a police detective allegedly found a marijuana pipe and a small amount of marijuana.
The detectives then contacted Fond du Lac Sgt. Casey Rennquist to bring his trained narcotics dog to the location. During the course of the free air sniff, the canine alerted police to the presence of a controlled substance. The detectives then search the four-wheeler and allegedly found two separate stashes of clear plastic bundles which ¬– after testing ¬– were determined to contain approximately 4 ½ grams of methamphetamine.
It was the second time Rennquist and his drug dog had busted Christian. During his first arrest, a hollow 7-Up can with a false top was found with 14 grams of meth inside.
Christian’s omnibus hearing for this alleged crime is set for the morning of Aug. 25 in Carlton County Court.
