A series of mobile hazardous waste collections are being held for businesses only in the Duluth and Cloquet areas.

The one-time collections by the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District are being held to build awareness of the dangers of hazardous products and the importance of clearing them from workplaces to ensure a safe and healthy environment.

Sometimes hazardous wastes are stored but forgotten over time as personnel changes, WLSSD representatives say.

The next Wednesday collections will be held at the following locations:

  • Wednesday at the city of Cloquet public works garage, 410 Armory Road in Cloquet.

  • Oct. 12 at Duluth Fire Station No. 7 at 1419 W. Maple Grove Road.

  • Oct. 19 at the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation Office, 12 E. Fourth St.

Appointments are needed to set up drop-off times between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Call (218) 726-1602 for an appointment and to determine eligibility.

The special collections are part of WLSSD’s Clean Shop program, which helps local businesses with their required hazardous waste management. The program provides disposal services for businesses that generate less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste monthly.
