JThe former teachers of the old Wright Elementary School met Monday, July 19, at Ray and Lindsay Lally’s for fun and fellowship. Attending were former kindergarten teacher JoLynn Norton and husband Bill, first-grade teacher Jean Lind, second-grade teacher Elaine Huhta, third-grade teacher Lindsay Lally, fourth-grade teacher Jennie Hanson, fifth-grade teacher Alice Legueri and husband George, sixth-grade teacher Bill Hoppe and wife Judy, principal Al Karki and special-ed teacher Peggy Anderson. A great time was had reminiscing about old times and catching up with what they are doing now and how their families have grown and changed. JoLynn and Bill came from Texas, where they live now, and the rest of them live in the area or around Cloquet. These folks have been getting together for years, but this is the first time all of them were gathered at the same time.

The Cromwell-Wright Class of ’77 is planning a 30-plus-3-year reunion on Sept.11 at 5 p.m. at the Fireside Inn in McGregor. This is the weekend of the Harvest Fest in Cromwell. If you are interested in attending contact Cathy (Tillman) Lundin at 218-644-3784 with how many will attend the dinner. Past teachers are invited also. Hope to see everyone there!

The Cromwell-Wright School year begins Sept. 7. If you are new to the area or know of someone new to the area with school-age children, stop in the school as soon as possible to get the children registered or call 218-644-3716.

The Class of ’47 will hold their 63rd class reunion on Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Fireside Inn in McGregor. They will be meeting in the back room at 12:30 p.m.

The Forest Hill Cemetery Association has another meeting scheduled for Thursday evening, Aug. 12. Look to this column next week for complete details.

There will be a benefit for Keith Richards at the Cromwell Pavilion on Sunday, Aug. 8, starting at noon. Please come out and support the family.

There will be an open house housewarming for Lloyd and Linda Shelton at their new home on Aug. 14 from 1-4 p.m. There will be food, so come hungry. The Sheltons had the misfortune of losing everything in their home to a house fire earlier this year. They escaped with their lives and only the clothes on their backs. They request no gifts, but you know our community and so do what you wish.

Vacation Bible School was held at Bethlehem Lutheran July 20-22 with over 45 kids in attendance each day. They learned to “Rejoice, Pray and Tell” during the Discovery Canyon events. Thanks to Bonnie Suhonen for heading up this huge undertaking and for all the volunteers who did such a fantastic job. The kids truly enjoyed the week.

Vacation Bible School will be held at Bethany Lutheran Cromwell on Monday, Aug. 2, through Thursday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are still needed, so just show up at the church to help when you can.

Bonnie Suhonen’s mom, Marge Hladky, died July 26 with her family by her side. She will be deeply missed by her four daughters and their families.

Tyyne Bertelsen died Saturday, July 24, en route to the hospital. More information next week on her funeral, but our sincere sympathy to her daughters and their families and all who knew Tyyne. She will be dearly missed.

The Kettle River Conference of the Women of the ELCA will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Jan and Gary’s Restaurant, 945 Highway 23 N., Sandstone, for their planning meeting for the fall gathering. All area Lutheran ladies are welcome to attend.
