The Whistlepigs to play Moose Lake

The Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association (MBOTMA) is bringing its annual Minnesota Bluegrass Community Concerts back to Moose Lake on Thursday, April 15 with the The Whistlepigs String Band at the Moose Lake Schools Auditorium (413 Birch Ave) starting at 8 p.m.

The Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association (MBOTMA) is bringing

its annual Minnesota Bluegrass Community Concerts back to Moose Lake on

Thursday, April 15 with the The Whistlepigs String Band at the Moose Lake

Schools Auditorium (413 Birch Ave) starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $9 in

advance, $12 at the door, $6 for teens, and free for kids age 12 and

under.

The Whistlepigs String Band has been playing its own brand of bluegrass

crossed with old-time, blues, and original music since 2003. They have

performed across the Upper Midwest in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, South

Dakota, and Canada. Sing Out Magazine called them "One of the best regional

bluegrass bands out there." Inside Bluegrass Magazine says they have

"spirit, creativity, variety, all-around instrumental expertise,

supercharged singing by four lead vocalists, and excellent original songs."

Members of the Whistlepigs include Fred Keller on mandolin, Joel Olson on

banjo, Ross Willits on bass, Chris Jones on guitar, and Catie Jo Pidel on

fiddle.

These concerts are presented by MBOTMA, a non-profit organization based in

Minneapolis, and are made possible in part by a grant provided by the

Minnesota State Arts Board, through an appropriation by the Minnesota State

Legislature and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Moose

Lake concert is being sponsored locally by Peggy Sue's Café, First National

Bank of Moose Lake, Lake Side Traders, Fjosne Construction, Farmers Union

Insurance, Ernie Gertzen & United Country Real Estate, Woodlands National

Bank, and the Carlton County Bluegrass Bash.
