The Ashland-based band Aphamy is the only returning group that placed in last year’s Junior Achievement Annual High School Battle of the Bands.
The punk pop trio that requests on MySpace that fans bring them Burger King to their shows is one of 12 bands in this year’s event on April 18 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
Other bands competing in the battle that pits high school and middle school garage bands representing regional high schools include: Excuse Me Princess from Duluth East; T.B.T. from Durand, Wis.; Badger Quest from Harbor City International School; Turpentine Brigade from Hermantown; Arise the Dawn from local home schools; Small Town Story from Lakeview Christian Academy; Resist the Armistice from Mora, Minn.; Crescendo from Proctor; Crescent Moon from Superior; Silencing the Desperate from Two Harbors; Underground Til Sundown from Deer River.
The alternates are Take the Fall from Grand Rapids and Compadre from Ely.
Prizes include recording sessions and local air play. The event is sponsored by Junior Achievement.
Aphamy finished fourth last year.
