District 8A State Rep. Bill Hilty announces bid for re-election

On the heels of the DFL Senate District 8 convention where he was unanimously endorsed for re-election, State Representative Bill Hilty is announcing his bid for re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 8A.

On the heels of the DFL Senate District 8 convention where he was unanimously endorsed for re-election, State Representative Bill Hilty is announcing his bid for re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 8A.

Hilty has served in the legislature since 1997, currently representing nearly all of Carlton County, five precincts in south St. Louis County, and the northern half and eastern third of Pine County. Among the cities in District 8A are Cloquet, Carlton, Moose Lake, Barnum, Wrenshall, Sturgeon Lake, Askov, Finlayson, Kettle River, Mahtowa, Brookston, Willow River, Wright and Cromwell.

Hilty’s past committee assignments have included State Government Finance, Government Operations and Veterans’ Affairs, Commerce, Regulated Industries and Energy, Labor-Management Relations, Judiciary Policy and Finance, and Civil Law and Elections.

In 2007 Hilty became Chair of the Energy Policy and Finance Committee, in addition to serving on Government Operations, Reform, Technology and Elections; State Government Finance; Telecommunications Regulation and Infrastructure Division; Ways and Means; and Finance.

During the 2009-10 biennium, he has continued to serve as Chair of the Energy Policy and Finance Committee, and also serves on State and Local Government Operations Reform, Technology and Elections; Local Government; Bioscience and Workforce Development Policy and Oversight, and Finance.

Additionally, Hilty is Co-chair of the Legislative Energy Commission, and serves on the Next Generation Energy Board, as well as the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, and the Legislative Audit Commission.

Speaking to the convention, Hilty thanked the delegates for their support and stressed the importance of continuing the work he has begun, playing a key role in developing our state’s energy policy. Hilty has been acknowledged as a legislative leader on elections issues, and his work in that area has made Minnesota a model for the nation.

“In these trying times, I have been able to make an impact for not just my district, but also for our state, in addressing its long-term needs and concerns," he said. "I look forward to continuing to serve and to help to address the challenges that are before us.
