Kenneth Carl Nikko, 79, of Tamarack, Minn., died Monday, March 1, 2010, in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, Minn.

Kenneth Carl Nikko, 79, of Tamarack, Minn., died Monday, March 1, 2010, in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, Minn. He was born July 31, 1930, in Eagle Township to Thomas and Sylvia Nikko. He attended schools in Cromwell, Minn. Ken married Beverly Keller in Oklahoma. Ken worked as a brakeman for the D&NE Railroad until he was drafted in United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, Ken returned and made his home in Carlton and returned to work at the D&NE Railroad. In the mid 1960s, he left the railroad, moved to Cromwell and worked for Lake States Tree Service clearing power lines. Ken was a member of the American Legion in Cloquet. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, in 1983; brothers, Walter, Donald and Ralph; and sisters, Doris, Darlene and Marie Keller, Evelyn Marsyla, and Pearl Walters.

He is survived by one daughter, Evonne (James) Vaughn of Nashua; four sons, Timothy (Sheri) of St. Francis, Steven (Pam Fetters) of Cromwell, Earl of Tamarack, and David of Wright; brothers, Rudolph (Karen) of Proctor, Ronald of Cromwell and Gordon (Renetta) of Carlton; sisters, Delores Cahoon of Duluth and Marjorie Marsyla of Sandstone; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 6, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Inurnment will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery in the spring. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carlton VFW Honor Guard.
