Wendell Everett Goad, 72, lifelong resident of Carlton, Minn., passed away suddenly on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, in St. Mary’s Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Wendell Everett Goad, 72, lifelong resident of Carlton, Minn., passed away suddenly on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, in St. Mary’s Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born in Wrenshall Township on July 20, 1937, to James Archie and Wilhelma S. (Moore) Goad. Wendell graduated from Carlton High School in 1955. He worked from 1955 to February 1977 at Wood Conversion and ConWed. He then worked from February 1977 until his retirement in 1999 for D.M. & I.R. Railway. He married Ruthann P. Jerde on June 27, 1967. Wendell enjoyed four-wheeling with the Geezer Gang and Thursday coffee with the Brown Socks guys at the recycling shed in Carlton. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes, hunting and camping. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will forever be remembered for his one-liners and his words to live by.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Ruthann; three sons, James H. (Tammy), Jeremy L. (Michelle) and Jason S. (Brianne); eight grandchildren, J.J., Jordan, Sophie, Josie, Cassie, Stefanie, Jase and Brenden; brothers, Jim and John (Ruth); sister, Wendella (Bernard) Seboe; mother-in-law, Eleanor Jania; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty and Gordy Doble, Joyce and Jerry Jerde, Roy Jerde and Geraldine and Arnold Jerde; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4, in Bethesda Lutheran Church, 204 Fifth St. Carlton. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, also in the church.
