“Trial by Jury” is a hilarious musical spoof on the British judicial system. Angelina, jilted by her lover Edwin, has taken him to court for breach of promise. The jury has been coached by the Court to side with her, in order to be “fair and impartial.” Edwin, the defendant, offers every legal argument he can, including an offer to marry both Angelina and his new lover. The judge, who has reached his high office by marrying a rich attorney’s daughter, doesn’t know the difference between “bigamy” and “burglaree.” Who will win this high-stakes trial of love? And will the Usher ever be successful in getting “Silence in court?”
And, as a special added bonus, Rubber Chicken Theater will open the show with the Special Educational Feature: “How to Recognize a Gilbert and Sullivan Opera!” hosted by a super secret celebrity guest.
This special evening of Gilbert and Sullivan is directed by Chris Nollet and features the singing and acting talents of Nollet, along with Jill Hoffman. They are two of the original members who have been bringing Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas to life on various Northland stages since 2001. The rest of the cast features Elizabeth Nelson, Lesley Lenox, Bonnie Baker, Leslie Bucar, Rick Hoffman, Greg Nollet, Tracy Close, Kristin Peterson, Siiri Branstrom, Joel Youngblom, Ron Venier, Tim O’Reilly, Taylor Martin-Romme, Dick Dolezal and Cheri Tesarek. Ben Gagne will provide piano accompaniment.
