Enbridge pipeline crews cleaning up North Dakota oil leak

NECHE, N.D. — Enbridge Energy Partners says crews are wrapping up repair and cleanup work after a pipeline leak spilled about 126,000 gallons of crude oil in Pembina County in northeast North Dakota.

The pipeline runs between Superior and Cromer, Manitoba. Enbridge spokeswoman Lorraine Grymala says the spill was confined to the pipeline’s property, and no water or wildlife have been affected.

The cause of the leak detected late last week near Neche is still under investigation by Enbridge and pipeline regulators. Officials with the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the North Dakota Health Department visited the site Monday.

Health Department environmental scientist Kris Roberts says the oil did not soak into the frozen ground but that it still might be a week or more before officials are willing to say the cleanup is done.
