Authorities identify Cloquet man killed in snowmobile accident

Authorities have released the name of the Cloquet man killed Saturday night in a Carlton County snowmobile accident.

Kyle Jay Sims, age 22, was fatally injured after he failed to negotiate a turn while snowmobiling on a road in Perch Lake Township and skidded into a wooded area. He was ejected from the snowmobile and died from his injuries. There were no passengers on the snowmobile.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident about 10 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation. Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, the sheriff’s office said Sunday.
