Get Veterans ID card photos taken tomorrow and Wednesday in Superior

The Business Office staff from the Minneapolis VA Medical Center will be available at the Twin Ports VA Outpatient Clinic in Superior to take photos for Veterans Identification Cards (VIC). Having this card, among other benefits, allows service-connected veterans free public sponsored transportation (i.e, DTA Buses, Minneapolis/St. Paul buses, and the train in the Twin Cities as well), according to Duane J. Brownie, Carlton County veterans service officer.

The dates and times are:

* January 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* January 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Veterans should be prepared to show a picture ID and provide their current mailing address. After photos are taken, card requests are processed in Minneapolis and transmitted to the Health Eligibility Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The Health Eligibility Center then confirms enrollment and processes the card. Veterans should receive their VIC card in the mail within 10-14 days.

Veterans must be enrolled in the VA Health Care System to be eligible for VIC cards. If a veteran has not completed a required means test, has issues with verification of military service, other pending eligibility issue, or never enrolled - VA will not be able to process a VIC card request. These issues should be taken care of prior to requesting a VIC card.
