"Doc" Michael Dean Dahlgren, 61, of Cloquet, Minn., died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at home after a lengthy stay at the Veteran's Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn. He was born March 4, 1948, in Nebraska. Doc graduated from Carlton High School in 1967. He was a disabled vet who served as an Army medic during the Vietnam era. He worked for the Cloquet Post Office and the Duluth News-Tribune. Doc loved the game of baseball and was amazing at baseball trivia. He enjoyed reading, canoeing, fishing and camping, especially with his kids on the St. Louis River.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sylvia Dahlgren, who died five days apart in 1973.
He is survived by a daughter, Melissa (Willy) Kantola of Hastings, Minn.; a son, Steven (Christie Manisto) Saari of Princeton, Minn.; his grandchildren, Winter, Sunday, Lincoln and a granddaughter due in December; his dog, Murphy; and his best friend, Joan.
Private services will be held at a later date.
"His demon silent and his pain gone, Doc can finally rest in peace. We will miss you."
