Students, grab your gear

Cloquet High School announces the following information for extracurricular activities this fall:

Cross country – Practice will begin Monday, Aug. 17, for varsity runners and middle school runners who are interested in practicing with the varsity. Meet at Pine Valley at 9 a.m. Call Mike Bushey at 218-428-8944.

Girls swimming – Practice will start at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at the Cloquet Middle School pool, enter through the athletic wing and follow signs. There will be a quick meeting on the first day. Practice is 4-6:30 p.m. in the summer and 4-6 p.m. during the swim season. Bring a one-piece suit, cap, goggles, tennis shoes, shorts and T-shirt for dry land training.

Girls tennis – Practice will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at the Cloquet High School courts. Any Cloquet, Esko or Carlton girl in grades 7-12 interested should attend. Bring appropriate clothing, a racquet and water bottle. Call Steve Rickstrom at 218-391-4349.

Football – Practice will start Monday, Aug. 17, with two-a-day practices from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Bring a lunch, plan to stay at school, bring fresh clothes, especially socks. There will be a break from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for showers and lunch. Call Tom Lenarz at 218-879-3393 ext. 1202.

Boys soccer – All boys in grades 7-12 interested in tryouts should meet at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at the Hilltop soccer complex. Practice is 9 a.m. to noon until school starts. Tryouts will be held Aug. 17, 18 and 19. Come ready to play (water bottle, shin guards, appropriate length socks, shoes, and a soccer ball). Invite a friend who may be interested, or provide their name and telephone number. Call Archie Clark at 218-729-0255.

Girls soccer – Tryouts will be held at Hilltop the week of Aug. 17 from 7-11 a.m. Bring running shoes, a ball, shin pads, cleats, lots of water and a healthy snack. Remember to invite your soccer playing friends. Call Kari Bjorklund at 218-341-7478.

Volleyball – Tryouts for girls entering grades 7-12 and interested in playing on the JV or varsity team will be held Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 17-19, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cloquet High School gym. Tryouts for the ninth-grade team are Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Wednesday, Aug. 19. There will be a half-hour break so bring healthy snacks and beverages. Wear comfortable clothes, appropriate shoes, and kneepads. You may want to bring a towel and extra set of clothes due to humidity.

Fall Musical – “Seussical the Musical” will be performed Nov. 11, 12, 13 and 14. Auditions will be held for Cloquet students in the choir room on Sept. 10 and 11 with recalls on Sept. 14. Scripts are available in the main office at CHS. This light-hearted production using the best of the Dr. Seuss characters is a great way to meet students.
