AlBrook boys track team suffer for numbers, girls make good run of it

Although AlBrook’s Katie Capriglione was the lone Falcon to punch her ticket to state, several other girls made it to sections while others came close.
Capriglione, a senior, won the shot put title at sections and placed just behind Wrenshall’s Andrea Gould in that event at the state competition.
“[Capriglione] wanted to place in the top nine but placing 16th in the state and making it to the competition two years in a row is great,” coach Jeremy Polson said.
Two younger girls, eighth-grader Emma Blom and freshman Miaja Fremling, advanced to the section meet in the 400-meter dash and 300-meter hurdles, respectively. Some of the girls relay teams narrowly missed qualifying for the section meet as well and Polson has high hopes for next year.
“Anytime you can get someone to state that’s a good thing,” he said, “and we have several athletes who could continue to excel and have a shot at it as well.”
The boys team this year was down in numbers, but overall Polson was happy with the season.
“I just hope our numbers can come up a little bit, but it was definitely a good season with good kids.”
