Cloquet track teams take part in LSC championship meet

The Cloquet boys and girls track teams took part in the Lake Superior Conference track meet on Tuesday, with the girls crowned section champions.
The meet at Public Schools Stadium saw the Cloquet girls defeat Hermantown by a margin of 12 points for the overall championship. Their team score of 136 outpaced the Hawks’ 124. Superior was third with 113 points with Denfeld, Central, Ashland, Proctor and Marshall following in order.
Individually, Jes Vork won the 100 meters in a time of 13:09 and finished third in the 200 in 27:32.
Taylor Sautbine won the 100 hurdles, edging out Hermantown’s Rachel Hoium in a time of 16.31 seconds. Sautbine was also second in the 300 hurdles, edged out by Proctor’s Micayla Westendorf by .09 of a second in a time of 49.40.
The ‘Jacks took second place in three of the four relay events to soldier their team scores, missing out for first in the 4x200 relay by .07 of a second to Central.
In the field events, Sautbine also took third in the high jump at 4 feet 8 inches. Hannah Roy was third in the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 11.5 inches, with Annabel Morrisroe third in the shot put with a toss of 32’5”.
The boys team finished sixth in the conference meet, with a team score of 53.5 points. Hermantown was the team winner with Superior second and Ashland third.
Individual sprint honors went to Simon Thill, who took second in the 400 meters. His time of 52.07 was just .04 behind champion Zach Colvin of Superior.
Nolan Dokken took home a first place for Cloquet in the 300 hurdles, leaning out Connor Hady of Hermantown to win in 43.28. The 4x200 relay team also earned a second-place finish.
In the field events, Kyle Burggraff earned a third place finish in the shot put with a toss of 44’8”. The section meet is next for both teams.
