Cromwell-Wright News

By: Jennie Hanson, Pine Journal

First off, there will be a Dramatization of Our Lord’s Death at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1. A group of over 20 youth and adults from the Moose Lake, Sturgeon Lake, Willow River, Kettle River and Cloquet will perform the Passion of Christ “Passion Play.” A soup supper will precede this event at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome and a free will offering will be taken.

Our community was saddened by the death of Glenn Kumm, 87, on March 14, 2009. Glenn had lived in Wright most of his life.

As most of you already know, March is Food Shelf Month and a huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated this month. Donations can always be used all year long and we hope you continue to give. It is really appreciated! The second-graders have already collected over 700 pounds of food and over $100 in cash from the students. They are trying to break the 1,000-pound record this year! Please try to help them out with one more donation from each family in school.

I recently read an article about Liz Palkie in the Pine Journal. She is a track star at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She has earned Division II All-Star American status for the third and fourth time in her career.

Jason Line, formerly of Wright, earned some NHRA Pro Stock winning times this year. It’s a long season of racing, but he is off to a great start.

The Stenson/Johnson family is planning their family reunion for the weekend of Wrong Days in Wright. This should bring in at least 50-75 more folks for this special annual event. The WD committee is well on its way to planning this year’s festivities. If you have any ideas or suggestions, call or talk to Dennis Cieluch, Sheldon Larsen, or Angie Luna. I know the class of ‘49 is getting together at the Fireside that weekend, which is July 17-18.

Kindergarten Round-Up will be held Wednesday, April 8, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the school. All families with children who will be 5 on or before Sept. 1 should have received an information packet in the mail. If not, call the school office at 644-3737, ext. 1000.

Parent’s Day Out will be held Friday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church for preschool children. There will be an opportunity for parents in the Wright-Cromwell area to enjoy free babysitting. Volunteer babysitters will be available so that parents can drop off their children to be taken care of at the church until 2 p.m. If interested, contact Bonnie at 218-357-2217 after April 12, for details and reservations for your child/children. Please call if interested in babysitting also, a few more volunteers are needed. You wouldn’t have to stay the whole time, you could volunteer for just the morning or afternoon time, too.

Firearm Safety Classes start April 21 at the school at 6 p.m. These classes are from 6-8 p.m. and you must attend the first class with your parents to attend. Students must be 12 years old by Nov. 1 to attend. There is a sign-up sheet in the office or call Pat Messer at 218-644-3216 to pre-register.

That’s all the news from Lake Gettingwetterandwetter and Hello to all the Snowbirds who will be returning soon.
