Two critically hurt in I-35 crash

Two people are in critical condition after a one-car crash on Interstate 35 in Carlton County on Saturday evening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Two people are in critical condition after a one-car crash on Interstate 35 in Carlton County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The driver of a 1997 Acura Integra, Mark Swenson, 16, of Duluth, was northbound on I-35 when the car spun out of control, ran off the road and struck a tree at 7:13 p.m. Swenson and one passenger, Nicole Braun, 15, of Holyoke, are in critical condition.

Swenson was taken to St. Luke’s hospital and Braun was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Another passenger, Lucas Anderson, 18, of Duluth, was treated at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake and released. All three were wearing seat belts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
