Fond du Lac Chairwoman finds threatening note
Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Chairwoman Karen Diver made an unpleasant discovery on Sunday – a dead deer with a threatening note tucked in its mouth left on her lawn.
Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Chairwoman Karen Diver made an unpleasant discovery on Sunday – a dead deer with a threatening note tucked in its mouth left on her lawn. The notes seemed to be loosely related to housing issues on the reservation.
Diver, who is running for re-election in June, downplayed the incident. She declined to make an official comment on Monday, except to say, "I have faith in the goodness of people of Fond du Lac, and believe this is an act of an individual, or small group of people who don't have the best interests of the community at heart."
A message directed to the perpetrator left on a community message board in the tribal center on Monday read in part: "...if you are not content here ... leave!! When you get done doing your time ... if and when you return, you will be ostracized."
Fond du Lac Tribal Police Chief Wally Dupuis declined to comment.
