Candidates file for FDL offices
It’s nearly primary election time on the Fond du Lac Reservation, and this year’s contests have generated considerable interest and participation. It’s nearly primary election time on the Fond du Lac Reservation, and this year’s contests have generated considerable interest and participation. Positions up for election this year are tribal chairperson, District 1 (Cloquet) representative and District III (Brookston) representative.
The candidate field includes all three incumbents currently holding those positions, as well as a host of other hopefuls.
Filing for the position of tribal chairperson are: Karen Diver (incumbent), Robert Abramowski, Patricia Petite, Ricky DeFoe and William DuFault.
Throwing their hats in the ring for the position of District I (Cloquet) representative on the tribal council are Eugene Reynolds (incumbent), Shawn Ammesmaki, DonWiesen, Wally Dupuis, Elwin Benton, Gerald (Steve) Mrozik, Charlin Diver, Harold Diver Jr., and Kristine Shotley.
District III (Brookston) candidates who have filed for office include: Roger “Bouda” Smith Sr. (incumbent), Ben Bassett, Anna Wait, James D. Couture Sr., Dawn Laprairie, Mary Northrup, Debbie Mallery, Ernest W. Diver and Jonathan B. Pensak.
The Fond du Lac Reservation primary election is set for Tuesday, April 1, and the general election is slated for Tuesday, June 10.
