The Cloquet Kiwanis Club will offer up a sure cure for the midwinter doldrums as local members host the Sixth Annual Kiwanis “Last Chance” Ice Fishing Contest.
The family fun event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23, from noon to 3 p.m. on one of the finest fishing lakes in the area – Fish Lake, located northwest of Duluth.
There will be prizes galore for participating ice fishermen, with thousands of dollars worth of cash and sports gear awarded for fish earning first through 50th place honors.
Grand prize for the first-place winner will be $1,000 in cash, and others will include power augers, a snowmbile trailer and many, many more.
Entry fees for the “Last Chance” Ice Fishing Contest are $20 in advance (talk to any of your local Kiwanis members) or $25 the day of the contest.
Children ages 12 and under can be entered for just $5.
All of the proceeds from the event will go to local charities supported by the Kiwanis Club.

The contest will take place just off from Hi-Banks Resort on Fish Lake. To get there from Cloquet, take Highway 33 north; go right on Highway 2 and proceed straight on Highway. 194. Turn left on Midway Road, following it through Pike Lake and turn right on Martin Road. From Martin, proceed as far as Lavaque Road, turning left on Lavaque and following it as far as the Minno-ette. Take a left on Fish Lake Road at the Minno-ette, go approximately one mile to Fish Lake Dam Road; turn left and proceed to the turnoff at Hi-Banks Resort.
