The following are some of the 153 Initial Complaint Reports the Carlton County Sheriff’s Department received the week of April 29-May 19, 2007:
A complainant on County Road 5 reported a stray rottweiler came onto the property and tried to attack him and his wife. The dog is in a kennel now and the complainant wanted permission to shoot it, which officers did not allow. Deputies contacted Friends of Animals and they arranged to pick up the dog.
Deputies assisted another agency in closing off County Road 8/State Line Road due to a grass fire.
At 8:31 a.m. deputies assisted Moose Lake Rescue with a rollover on I-35 southbound near Sturgeon Lake.
A complainant reported receiving two pair of underpants and a love letter from her estranged husband, which is in violation of an Order for Protection against him.
A complainant reported horses were loose on County Road 5.
Following a request by his probation officer, Shane Donald Sundquist, 32, was taken into custody.
Janet Lucille Trudell, 53, was arrested on a Grant County felony warrant.
Vandalism was reported at Esko High School at 3:45 p.m. The passenger window of the complainant’s daughter’s car was smashed sometime today after 12:15 p.m. It may have been captured on video but the person won’t be available until May 2 to retrieve the tape. The deputy noted he would pick up the tape at the school in the morning.
A traffic stop on I-35 northbound resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Charles Wesley Morris Jr. for violation of limited status, given promise to appear.
A complainant and her realtor requested an escort at property for sale on County Road 13 because they have been threatened in the past by the person currently living on the property. Deputies followed up and discovered the party is still living there, and will go through the courts for eviction.
A fire was reported at 3:23 p.m. at a residence on West Chub Lake Road. The fire, started by a toaster, was extinguished.
Joseph Bronzell Adams, 29, and Dennis Ray Huff, 26, were arrested at 11:06 p.m. on I-35 northbound for first degree controlled substance.
A complainant reported a rock was thrown through his vehicle’s window while parked on the Highway 61 bike trail. A bike valued at $50 and binoculars valued at $20 were missing.
At 12:57 a.m. a traffic stop on Highway 33 resulted in the arrest of Leah Kay Osborne, 24, for third degree possession of a controlled substance and fifth degree possession of marijuana.
Graffiti vandalism was reported at the Sawyer Center.
A burglary was reported at 10:02 a.m. on Helberg Road. Three long guns were stolen.
Daniel Steven Sather, 22, was arrested at 2:38 a.m. on Highway 61 near Himango Road for second degree DWI, open bottle, possession of drug paraphernalia and test refusal. His passenger was given a ride to Cloquet.
Jeremiah Michael Johnson, 26, was arrested at 11:18 p.m. on Highway 210 in Carlton for fourth degree DWI and over the centerline.
A attempted burglary was reported at Barnum Elementary School over the weekend.
Following the request of his parole officer, Scott Lee Fairbanks, 30, was arrested on a felony warrant.
Douglas Eldon Ihnken, 66, was arrested at 1 p.m. on a Carlton County warrant.
A physical domestic was reported at 12:22 a.m. on Highway 210 in which a male assaulted a female.
Maria Santodongto, 36, was arrested at 12:26 a.m. on Hickory Avenue for fourth degree assault and obstruction with force.
A burglary was reported at 11:39 a.m. on County Road 18. Two guns were missing.
Vandalism was reported to a camper on Dalles Avenue. Dents were noted on the camper from a BB gun. It was not known when the vandalism occurred.
A complainant reported his neighbor’s cows were on his property on County Road 4 – an ongoing complaint.
Timothy David Beatty, 23, was arrested at 10:07 a.m. on Cemetery Road on a St. Louis County warrant.
At 4 p.m. a complainant reported recovering four new Copper tires valued at approximately $1,000 on Krogh Road.
At 6:29 p.m. a grass fire was reported in the ditch on County Road 11, just south of County Road 6. Barnum Fire Department and Cloquet DNR responded.
Brent Anthony Syvock, 19, was cited at 11:37 a.m. on I-35 for small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A burglary was reported at 6:35 p.m. on Highway 61 North. The complainant reported he just got home and found his workshop/garage had been broken into. There was glass broken as well. Nothing appeared to be missing, however.
An vehicle-deer accident was reported at 10:30 p.m. near Ratika and Solway roads.
Benjamin Douglas Ferriere, 27, was arrested at 10:43 a.m. at the River Ranch Arena on a warrant.
Several complaints were received around 9:30 p.m. of a large recreational bonfire next to Evergreen Drive. Deputies responded and located the bonfire on Fern Drive. The party had a hose nearby and lots of people were around watching it. Minnesota State Patrol advised there was a total burn ban in St. Louis and Cook counties, but not in Carlton County, although campfires must be in a ring or container.
At 4:16 p.m. a complainant reported kids jumping off a bridge on the Munger Trail. Deputies responded but were unable to locate the individuals.
An ATV accident resulting in injuries was reported at 4:50 p.m. off Highway 73.
A traffic stop at 1:41 a.m. on County Road 4 resulted in the arrest of Joyce Ann Anderson, 46, for fourth degree DWI and speeding.
A one-vehicle rollover was reported at 3:20 p.m. on County Road 6. No injuries were reported.
A vehicle-deer accident occurred at 3:32 p.m. at County roads 11 and 8.
A complainant reported finding a motorcycle on the side of County Road 61, south of Mahtowa. There were keys in it but no one was around.
Vandalism was reported on Front Street. Someone damaged the baseball fence at the Barnum City Park.
A traffic stop at 11:10 p.m. on northbound I-35 near Barnum resulted in the citation of Levi Thomas Julik, 26, for small amount of marijuana in motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding.
The Esko Post Office reported a lock and lights were tampered with in a possible attempted break-in. The window cage to the office had a broken handle, but no entry was gained. The complainant also reported the lights should always be on and they were off this morning upon opening. Extra patrol was requested.
A suspicious person was reported at 2:23 p.m. on West Harney Road. Kids were approached on Saturday by a male who appeared to be around 40 years old driving a blue four-door. He talked to them about their bikes and drove back and forth by them.
Many callers reported a motorcycle accident on northbound I-35 around 2:30 p.m.
A burglary was reported on South Lakeview Drive. A residence was entered and items were missing.
Lee Michael Lavamaki, 21, was arrested on Ninth Street at 9:12 a.m. on a Carlton County warrant.
At 7:01 p.m. a complainant reported a juvenile male smoking cigarettes and littering on Lone Oak Drive.
Yia Xiong, 33, was arrested at 12:23 a.m. on northbound I-35 for driving after suspension, no insurance and on a Pine County warrant.
Vandalism was reported on Stenman Road at 8:35 a.m. Someone ran off the road and knocked down a mailbox during the night. The mailbox was mounted on concrete and three tires.
A burglary was reported at 10:02 a.m. on Hanratty Road. No further information was reported.
Roy Nell Taylor, 46, was cited for NSF check.
A complainant reported a teen boy on a motorcycle had been riding in their field on Villa Vista Circle. It appears he ran out of gas and abandoned the bike and walked off. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate anyone.
A physical domestic was reported on Heaton Circle at 5:27 p.m. A big fight was under way with several people in front of neighbor’s trailer. A male threatened to leave and get a gun. Deputies responded and noted there was no sign of weapons. Brett James Ophus, 19, was arrested for fifth degree domestic assault.
At 8:58 a.m. a complainant reported his fish mail box had been blown up by a small bomb-type device that had been placed in there overnight.
A complainant reported a goat ran out in the roadway as he was driving by. Luckily, he was able to stop in time, but the goat is wandering around in the area of Stark and Forstie road. Animal Control was notified.
A complainant requested extra patrol on Monday and Thursday nights between 6-8 p.m. during Little League practice in Wright because there are people driving through at high rates of speed, particularly a light blue van.
At 6:28 p.m. a complainant on County Road 3 reported a suspicious person. He reported a drunk male approached him in his yard, seeming friendly. He gave his first name and stated he was camping in the woods. The complainant reported he was heading northbound on County Road 3 on a green bicycle. Deputies responded and when they located him he ran. Deputies pursued and stopped him on the bike trail. Darwin Lynn Blokzyl, 52, was arrested on a warrant out of the St. Cloud Police Department.
A complainant reported his hunting shack at Silver Creek and North Road had been burgled.
Kerrie Rae Sorenson, 39, was arrested at 7:20 p.m. on southbound I-35 for second degree DWI.
