Carlton County Sheriff’s Report

The following are some of the Initial Complaint Reports the Carlton County Sheriff’s Department received March 18-31, 2007:

March 18

A traffic stop at 11:13 p.m. on I-35 near Esko resulted in the citation of Joseph Timothy Silker, 20, for driving after revocation, drug paraphernalia, small amount of marijuana, and no proof of insurance.

March 19

Thomas Andrew Lindquist Jr., 30, was arrested at 12:08 a.m. on County Road 7 for third degree DWI and driving after suspension.

Preston Durell Lepinski, 22, was arrested at 10:04 a.m. on Wrenshall Street on a Carlton County felony warrant.

A 13-year-old male was cited at 12:01 p.m. at Carlton High School for possession of tobacco by a minor.

A complainant on Highway 210 reported a working partner’s wrist was cut badly in a logging accident. He was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle, escorted by a deputy. An ambulance was called and intercepted the vehicle on Highway 33. The driver was reminded that squads do not escort for medical calls, and that people should call for an ambulance directly.

A two-vehicle accident was reported in front of the Esko Fire Hall. Anthony Philip Haverkamp, 20, was cited at 2:37 p.m. for failure to yield.

Barnum High School reported an out-of-control student. No further information was available.

March 20

Carlton High School reported that an assault had occurred on March 13 between two male students.

Arnold Raymond Anderson, 32, was arrested at 10:24 a.m. on Olsonville Circle for a Carlton County failure to pay child support warrant, and new charges of no proof of insurance and driving after revocation. His vehicle was towed and held for proof of insurance, registration and ownership.

The K-9 Unit performed a demonstration at 2:30 p.m. at South Terrace Elementary.

A juvenile on probation admitted to criminal sexual conduct.

March 21

A complainant reported three horses on North Cloquet Road. Tracks were followed to Marks Road and the owners were advised that if there were further problems they may be cited for public nuisance.

At 10:42 a.m. a complainant reported vandalism to rental property on Walnut Avenue. Graffiti was painted on the side of the building.

At 1:29 p.m. a complainant on County Road 139 reported threats were being made by a live-in boyfriend, who keeps a loaded gun by the bedside. She was advised of her options and how to get an order for protection.

Wrenshall High School reported vandalism. The school had a broken window.

A fight was reported at 10:17 p.m. at a Carlton establishment. Deputies responded and arrested Brandon Randall Johnson, 23, for second degree assault and third degree assault.

A disturbance was reported at the same Carlton establishment at 10:20 p.m. and subsequently Angela Star Alexander, 23, was arrested for disorderly conduct.

March 22

A motor vehicle accident was reported at 5:45 a.m. on Center Road. A vehicle hit an electric pole, causing damage to both the pole and the vehicle.

Travis John Hanson, 26, was picked up in Faribault on a Carlton County misdemeanor warrant.

A complainant on West Road reported she found her dog with his head and mouth duct-taped, suspecting individuals known to her. Deputies responded and the individuals confessed to doing it. No charges were pressed.

At 11:17 a.m. a complainant on Little Road reported three juveniles just broke down her door and entered the residence, then ran off when they saw she was home.

A complainant reported finding an injured dog on the side of the road. Later the complainant called to report she found the owner and returned the dog.

A burglary was reported on County Road 157. The complainant reported someone broke into the house, rummaged through things and took change.

March 23

A house fire was reported at Second Street and Pease Avenue. Wright and Cromwell fire departments responded.

A theft was reported at 11:57 a.m. on Highway 73. Missing items included receptacle covers, AA batteries and thread.

A complainant reported a couple of individuals arguing in a Sawyer business parking lot, but then called back to report they had left.

At 4:21 p.m. a complainant on County Road 102 reported her ex, who was very intoxicated, was face down in his lawn surrounded by propane tanks. She was afraid something would happen to him and wanted someone to check on him. Deputies responded and reported the individual had been drinking but seemed OK now and didn’t want any help.

March 24

A complainant on Third Street reported a female threw a chair through a window. Deputies responded and Julie Ann Willenbring, 25, was arrested at 4:55 p.m. for criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct.

A two-vehicle accident was reported at 7:12 p.m. at Barnum High School.

The following are some of the 165 Initial Complaint Reports the Carlton County Sheriff’s Department received from March 25-31, 2007:

March 25

At 8:41 p.m. a complainant on County Road 6 reported he wanted a female out of his house but she won’t leave, even though she lives there. He had trapped her inside a bedroom and she can’t leave. At 9:06 p.m. officers were attached by their pit bull and shot. No further information was available.

At 10:49 p.m. a complainant reported her 20-year-old boyfriend was depressed and drunk and said he wanted to run off and hit a tree. She reported he left Esko about 15 minutes ago. St. Louis County and Minnesota State Patrol were also notified. He was in an old red Dodge truck, possibly headed for Gary through Jay Cooke. Officers checked the park but were unable to locate the individual.

March 26

At 12:08 a.m. a 16-year-old male was cited on Highway 61 for stop sign violation and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. The juvenile was turned over to parents.

A deer-vehicle accident was reported on County Road 4 west of Mahtowa at 6:36 a.m.

Shane Donald Sundquist, 32, turned himself in for a Carlton County warrant.

Pamela Dee Luing, 45, was arrested at 7:09 p.m. on Nynas Road on a Carlton County misdemeanor probation violation warrant.

March 27

Brent Theodore Gudowski, 26, was arrested at 11:04 a.m. on a St. Louis County warrant.

A vehicle rollover accident was reported at County roads 103 and 4 at 4:24 p.m. Though it was reported the driver was transported to Community Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle, the individual never went to the hospital. He was located at the scene. Shane Everett Ward, 20, was cited for careless driving.

A complainant reported her child was bitten by a dog in the Heaton Trailer Court. Deputies responded and spoke with everyone involved. The report would be sent to Human Services as the seven-year-old child had been left alone at the dog owner’s place.

March 29

A complainant reported their 15-year-old son was threatening suicide. He stopped him from leaving in a vehicle and he was being restrained at this time. Deputies responded and transported the male juvenile to St. Luke’s.

Minnesota Department of Corrections notified deputies that a Level 1 sex offender was moving into Carlton County.

A complainant reported a 20-year-old male in the emergency room with a self-inflicted hand injury from a pellet gun. He was instructed if he wanted to speak with an officer to call 911.

March 30

A traffic stop at 1:13 a.m. at I-35 and County Road 4 resulted in the citation of Benjamin Norman Booth, 21, for small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle. Anthony Scott Grauman, 20, was cited for small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and underage consumption.

March 31

At 3:11 a.m. a complainant on Second Street reported 17-year-old female was out of control. She was transported to Detox and cited for minor consumption.

A complainant on Third Avenue reported a dog was tangled up in the yard in the rain/ice since Wednesday. Friends of Animals was notified.
