What could be better than eating for a good cause?

The annual Food for Thought event offers a dazzling array of tasty, locally prepared food and drink for anyone willing to pay the cost of admission, while raising money for student scholarships at the same time.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. today, Jan. 19, at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, where guests will find signature food and beverage specialties created by more than 20 area businesses.

“Whether it’s desserts, appetizers or savory main course dishes that get your mouth watering, we’ve got it all at Food for Thought,” said organizer Mary Soyring. “And people keep coming back, too, because it's a food-centered gathering of many community friends and new acquaintances.”

Michelle Lee is the guest emcee for this year’s event. The recently retired longtime KBJR-TV anchor is a strong supporter of Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, said Soyring.

In addition to the money raised by selling tickets to the event, Food for Thought will raffle off a $1,000 travel voucher. Tickets to win the travel voucher are $10 each (need not be present to win). As well, this year's silent auction includes a stay at Radisson Blu/Mall of America, tickets to a Timberwolves suite, and more.

Guests can also peruse the famous "Wall of Wine" once they eat their fill. For a minimal donation per bottle, guests select a random bottle of wine and an envelope containing a gift card ranging in value from $10 to $40 donated from an area business.

It’s fun, filling, and the proceeds go to fund scholarships for FDLTCC students.

"Our first three years have been wildly successful and last year we raised more than $17,000 for our student scholarship fund," said FDLTCC board member Barb Wyman. "When we present the scholarships to the students, it's always an amazing feeling to know that even a small scholarship can change the course of a student's life."

Tickets to attend Food for Thought are $30 at the door.
