County Seat Theater Company opens 2016 season with a family fun show
You won’t want to miss the adventure and excitement of the County Seat Theater Company’s 2016 season opener “The Magic Pebble.” From the opening song to the closing duet, there is plenty of fun for children and adults. This one-act play by Nancy Kierspe Carson features veteran actors Michael Rosen as the irascible Captain Crimson and Cheryl Kramer-Milder as the crusty Miss Figaro whose worlds collide in this musical comedy.
Four bored youths (portrayed by Addison Loeb, Elise Cawcutt, Bridger McCorison and AJ Maijala) discover a magic pebble and hang on for dear life as it takes them to a pirate ship crewed by Captain Crimson and his sidekick Seaweed (Jennifer Soukkala). They inadvertently bring Crimson and Seaweed back to the present where they have amusing confrontations with the miraculous creatures’ vacuum sweeper and radio and with the concept of a round world.
“The characters are zany and the music is infectious,” said Director Joel Soukkala. “I wouldn’t be surprised if many who attend don’t return to see it again — it is just that enjoyable.”
Nineteen cast members of all ages make up the eccentric ensemble of characters, which include SharkBait, Shanghai Sam and the crew of pirates to King Tut, his Visier Ay and a performance by the Beledi Middle Eastern dancers.
“It is a great opportunity to bring the entire family or grandchildren to a show,” said Soukkala. The theater will offer a special family rate for this production of only $40.
The County Seat Theater Company will perform “The Magic Pebble” Feb. 5-7 and 11-14 at the Encore Performing Arts Center in Cloquet. Performances are at 7 p.m. except Sunday performances at 2 p.m. Tickets can be reserved by calling the box office at 218-878-0071 or online at www.countyseattheater.com.
