Dan and Sara Baars are proud to announce the birth of their third child, a son, Ryder Wesson Baars, born on May 7, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth. He is welcomed home by his parents, and brothers, Hunter, age 6, and Walker, 3. Grandparents are Clyde and Roxy Homstad of Cromwell and Gary and Susan Baars of Inver Grove Heights.

Ann Heikkila and Tim Bury want to say “thanks” to the community members who came to the Memorial Day event at the city park in Wright. A special thank you to the VFW Color Guard, Auxiliary women and the Johnson sisters from Floodwood, who graciously performed their services to us with always a patriotic flair. Thanks to the restaurant, the Co-op Store, the bread man, and the ladies who donated bars for our sloppy Joe lunch, as we served 64 people. My helpers were greatly appreciated. This event always brings people from near and far. Keep up the spirit, but never forget the veterans.

Happy 50th wedding anniversary to Lawrence and Maxine Line. A huge party was held for them on June 7 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. There were hundreds of family and friends in attendance and the Lines thank everyone for attending or sending good wishes to them.

There will be a bridal show on Wednesday, June 18, at 1:30 p.m. at Villa Vista/Cardinal Court. They are asking for anyone’s wedding dress, gown, suit, bridesmaid dresses or anything pertaining to a wedding. Please bring in with your name on it. We will also need some high school girls to volunteer to model them for the bridal show. Also, please bring in your residents’ wedding pictures for display the month of June. Be sure to label them so you get them back!

Several eighth-graders will be confirmed at Bethany Lutheran church on June 15 at the 10:30 a.m. service. This will also be their first Sunday for new interim pastor Judy Anderson-Bauer.

Great opportunities for all high school seniors and juniors of 2015: now is the time to start thinking of those volunteer hours that are required for some scholarships such as Dollars for Scholars as well as other future scholarships. There are many opportunities that are available this summer to volunteer. There is the Harvest Fest steak fry on June 27, the Harvest Fest Sept. 5-7, the food shelf, Kaleb Anderson Memorial Run in July, school/church functions, and any future Dollars for Scholars fundraisers that will be happening. These events run smoother with extra hands. For any questions, contact Kay Smith at 218-591-2860.

The Area Clothing Depot is in need of volunteers for Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Depot would also welcome new people. Please do not leave your donations outside when the Depot is not open. Whoever left things on June 2, all of the items got wet so most will need to be disposed of. That is a waste. Please respect the organization. Thank you from the Depot Board.

The Fourth Annual Kaleb Anderson Memorial Fun Run/Walk, pancake breakfast, and rummage sale will be held Saturday, July 5, at the Cromwell Pavilion. Breakfast and rummage sale starts at 7 a.m. Registration for the run/walk starts at 7:30 a.m. Pre-registration is due by June 20 and a T-shirt is guaranteed. Registration forms are available at area businesses around town. For questions, contact Jen Anderson at 218-390-3214. Proceeds from the pancake breakfast will go to the Kaleb Anderson Memorial Scholarship. Proceeds from the walk/run will go towards the playground equipment.

Summer Yoga at the Cromwell Pavilion takes place on Mondays from 5-6 p.m. through June and July, for all ages. If you are new to the group, come 15 minutes early. If you have questions about the yoga, call Ann Markusen at 218-644-3516 (home) or 218-427-3300 (cell).

The classes of 1955 and 1956 plan to meet Saturday, July 19, at 1 p.m. at the Country Inn in Cromwell. Call Shirley Johnson/Alice Lake for information. This is also the same weekend as Wrong Days in Wright, so keep this in mind when making plans for the summer.

The Cromwell Class of 1957 will meet at David Pitkanen’s on Cross Lake on Sept. 6 starting at noon.

The Tri-Community Food Shelf gladly accepts donations of homegrown produce. With that in mind why not think about planting an extra row or two in your garden this year to donate. They accept donations at the food shelf site, the old Trolley Store in Cromwell, on Fridays from 2:30-3 p.m. Volunteers are now needed at the food shelf. If you have any questions, contact Dianne Knoben at 218-426-4067 or speak to any other volunteer that you may know.

That’s all the news from Lake Happyfather’sday and hello to all the dads in the area. Have  great day!
