A huge “thank you” from Laird and Julie Ann Hansen on their 50th wedding anniversary. They thank family, friends and all for coming to the event, for cards and gifts.

Several members of Bethany and Bethlehem Lutheran churches met with interim pastor candidate Pastor Judy Anderson-Bauer on April 25. Pastor Judy is very experienced in ministry and well spoken. After a lengthy discussion, those in attendance acted on behalf of both congregations and accepted her to serve as an interim, agreeing to hire her. She said she would be committed to us through the end of this year and open to possibly negotiating an extension. She needs to tie up loose ends and turn in her resignation at her current call, and feels she can start with us for worship June 15.

The Eagle Lake Cemetery’s annual meeting is Monday, May 5, at 7 p.m. at the Sno-Gophers Club House. Also, Eagle Lake Cemetery Clean-Up Day will be Sunday, May 18, at 1 p.m. Bring your rakes, tools and weed whips.

Please join us in honoring the Class of 2014 on Sunday, May 11, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell at 10:30 a.m. All graduating seniors and their families are invited to attend church that day, be honored by the congregation, and take part in a short blessing before you go out into the world after graduation. A potluck salad luncheon will be served following the service.

The Annual Bethany Lutheran rummage sale will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 1, from 4-7 p.m. and Friday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to noon. Proceeds are used to send area youth to camp.

The Bethlehem Lutheran Women’s Annual Mother Daughter Tea and Luncheon will be on Saturday, May 10, at 1:30 p.m.  All area women and girls are encouraged to attend. Feel free to bring guests.

The Women of Bethlehem are planning a Bake and Rummage Sale the weekend of May 30and 31, so you can start saving items for the sale.  Items can be brought to church the week before the sale. Volunteers are needed to help. Let Diane Anderson know if you can help.

The Senior Award Banquet will be Thursday, May 15. The meal begins at 5:30 p.m., with presentations at 6 p.m. This event is sponsored by the student council. Each senior, parent, or guardian will eat free. Extra guests will be charged a small fee, determined by the student council.

The Cromwell Area Community Club will meet May 8, May 29, and the second Thursday of each month beginning Thursday, June 12, in the activities room, upstairs at Cardinal Court at 6:30 p.m. They are making plans to do fundraisers to promote Harvest Fest activities, which include raffles, a steak fry, etc. Bring your ideas to the next meeting! Everyone is welcome. To become a charter member the cost is only $10 per person per year.

Congratulations to Olivia Warpula for being accepted as an at-large entry to the Speech National Individual Events Tournament of Champions! She had three first-place scores this season that qualified her for Nationals in the category of Humorous Interpretation. She will compete May 9-11 in St. Peter at Gustavus Adolphus College with hundreds of speakers from across the nation.

Cromwell-Wright Prom is Saturday, May 3, at Barker’s Island. Pictures are from 3-4 p.m. in the auditorium with Grand March to follow at 4:30 p.m. The students will then board the bus to go to Barker’s Island for dinner and the dance. They will then go on to Superior Paintball for their post-prom activity and should return back to the school by 2:45 a.m.

Congratulations to Olivia Warpula and Kyle Pfisthner for making it to the State Speech Tournament in Blaine! Olivia placed in the top 10 out of 24 speakers in prelims and Kyle finished 22 out of 24. Great job representing Cromwell!
