Wrenshall students headed for State Knowledge Bowl
On Feb. 25, the senior high Knowledge Bowl season ended for two of Wrenshall’s teams. Wrenshall’s three teams finished second, 29th,
and 68th for the regular season competition. This season showed
strong growth for all of the teams, but one team stood out.
The aptly named Wrenshall Team 1 finished in second place out of 84 teams and advanced to the section competition on March 19. The team is made up of two seniors, Jacob Vanhoever and Chris Hallett; one junior, Ashlynn Carlson; and one foreign exchange student, Regis Siereveld.
These four competed in six rounds of competition in Mountain Iron for a chance to advance to the state competition on March 19. The top three teams out of 24 continue on to compete for the state Knowledge Bowl championship.
This year, Team 1 broke some former Wrenshall records. They were the first team from Wrenshall to finish in first place at a regular season meet. They are also the first team to finish the regular season above fourth place.
In addition, this year is the first time in 15 years that one of Wrenshall’s teams advanced to the state meet.
Team 1 will compete at State April 10-11 at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd.
