William E. Gleason

William E. Gleason, 95 years young, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014. He was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Rice Lake, Wis. Bill served from 1941-1945 in the 3rd Armored Tank Division. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and went through to Berlin. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received during the war. In 1951-1953, he served in Korea and then retired after 20 years of active duty.

He was married 67 years to Bernadine Carlson of Cloquet, Minn., and they had six children: Cheryl (Bob) Hinrichs, Ben (Allen), Steve (Lois), Colleen, Shannon (TJ) and Terry.

He is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers Arthur (Pauline) of Cloquet and James (Joan) of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Irene (Edward) Polley of Cloquet; Sr. Helen of Maryknoll, N.Y., Jean (Bill) Sell of Cloquet, and Mary Ann (Floyd) Bauman of Meadowlands, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Lois (Richard) Gleason and Gloria (John) Johnson, both of Cloquet; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Exillia Gleason; his eldest daughter, Cheryl Hinrichs; and brothers Raymond, Lloyd, John and Richard.

He will be missed walking the streets of Rogue River, saying "Hello" to all.

A funeral mass was held in Rogue River, Ore.
