Vera Burdick, 102, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. She was born Feb. 13, 1912, in South Dakota to Leon and Elizabeth Peltzer. She grew up in Broken Bow, Neb. Vera met and later married Gilbert "Gib" Burdick in Nebraska. They later moved to Wisconsin, California and Minnesota. They mostly farmed in the Foxboro, Wis., area where they raised four children. Vera and Gib enjoyed dancing and visiting their family and many friends. Vera belonged to the Foxboro Garden Club and always enjoyed her flowers.
After her husband's death, Vera moved to Cloquet where she became very active in the community. She was past president of the Senior Citizens Club, volunteered in the print shop at Cloquet Middle School, and sang with the Jubilantees who entertained at many places with their delightful music. Vera dearly loved card games and played bridge, duplicate bridge, cribbage and 500. She also took several trips with the senior group and enjoyed festivals, national parks, Hawaii, and going to plays.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gib; son, William; three brothers, Edward, Alvin and Alfred Peltzer; three sisters, Leah, Ruth and Naomi; and son-in-law, Ted Muermann.
She is survived by her two daughters, Carol (Richard) Lindquist of Ohio and Gwen Muermann of Cloquet; son, Gary (Connie) Burdick of South Dakota; daughter-in-law, Judy (Tom) Renner of Minnetrista, Minn.; two sisters, Katherine Thornhill of Missouri and Lila Proffit of Superior; sister-in-law, Luella Burdick of Superior; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Inter-Faith Care Center and Dr. Vicki Anderson for their kind and loving care of Vera.
Visitation: Sunday, June 8, from noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Summit Cemetery in Foxboro, Wis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Inter-Faith Care Center Activities Fund.
