Tuesday night power outage is corrected
The stars were bright Tuesday night when a power outage affected more than 8,600 customers in the Cloquet, Carlton and Esko areas for about an hour late Tuesday evening. Minnesota Power reported that electricity was restored by 11:10 p.m. The utility reported that the outage began at about 10:10 p.m.
Police directed traffic on Highway 33 intersections in Cloquet while the traffic lights were down, and Sappi Fine Papers continued operations as usual.
Minnesota Power spokeswoman Amy Rutledge said a substation in Cloquet “tripped offline due to a malfunctioning piece of equipment.”
A crew will be making permanent repairs Wednesday, she said.
